The RNC & AIG

AIG, RNC. What do you think these two illustrious entities have in common? How about this, extravagant vacations and parties using other people’s money!

Just last week, RNC officials touted a January fundraising haul of more than $10 million. But after hosting the sun-filled winter meeting in Hawaii, paying for the holiday party and taking care of other bills, the committee spent almost all of it. Consequently, the RNC added only $1 million to the committee’s $8.4 million in cash, the reports show…

RNC meal costs are among the categories that saw the biggest increases under Steele’s leadership. In Beverly Hills, Calif., the RNC spent $10,600 on food and lodging for a fundraiser featuring former Speaker Newt Gingrich at Spago, the flagship restaurant of the Wolfgang Puck Fine Dining Group. In total, the Wolfgang Puck enterprise has collected more than $94,000 from the RNC for catering services, compared with zero dollars in 2005.

Aside from the endorsing of progressives (some call them moderates, others RINO’s), this is just another reason for me to continue not donating to the Republican Party. My donations go to the candidates directly. You’re doing a helluva job, Michael Steele!

What's good for Wolfgang Puck is good for America. Way to go fiscally responsible Michael Steele and the Republican party!!

They didn't quadruple the federal debt. That would be Obama.

Kinda weak Kermit.

Myself; I am disgusted. Can you imagine what that money could have meant to a struggling conservative running for congress? I keep rooting for Steele to do well, because there's something about the guy that I like. But he just keeps screwing the pooch in spectacular fashion. This could be the worst blunder yet. Steele has just achieved full douchebag status.

Al and Odin-
Try to gloat with a little class.

Just another example of your Repub leaders' low opinion of the electorate. Party's perceived as overwhelming white and hostile toward black people, so put a black guy in charge of the RNC. That'll show 'em.

Kinda like McCain picking Palin in a lame attempt to curry favor with Hillary voters. Live by the superficial, die by it.

Cold day in hell when you see one of those partisans saying anything bad about Obama or the left. That's why we have a good blog and they don't. I have noted 4 things that Obama has done correctly so far and we have chronicled the overspending of the Republicans for years.

The people that scream the loudest about partisanship on the right are usually the worst offenders on the left. This is why I stand by my take no prisoners attitude when dealing with lefties. Good for the Goose, good for the Gander.

Who on the left is screaming about partisanship? Most of the lefties I know don't expect anything else from Republicans. Anytime Republicans are able to analyze reality accurately enough to make substantive contributions, most of the lefties I know are thankful and amazed. We're used to seeing you treat facts as enemy combatants.

Steele's failures will be attributed by him and others to entrenched Repub racism and it'll be impossible to tell to what extent that's the case. The funny thing is that Repubs who try to make the case that Steele's personal failings are primarily responsible will also probably be perceived by the black community as racists. Either way you lose.

The only way I see Repubs escaping the noose you've put around your necks is if Steele succeeds or is perceived as succeeding. At this point I don't see that happening, but if Repubs are able to take control of the House and/or Senate, that could change.

If the republicans take control of the House and/or Senate it will have very little to do with Michael Steele but with the incumbents themselves. Grow a pair and do what you were elected to do and let the chips fall where they may. For Gods stake stop putting your moistened finger up to the political wind for every decision you make. Trust your convictions and move forward.

Hey Fred, don't you love having Onan on your side?

Fred probably likes Onan on his side about as much as I'm diggin having Steele on my side.

At this point, most of their candidates winning would probably be in spite of Steele, not because of anything constructive he's done to further their cause(s). The funny thing is they can't afford to say that. If they retake control, they'll have to attribute some of their success to Steele, whether he deserves it or not.

Probably be the What Up? section of his website that'll be credited.

Odin
Funny you should mention McCain

Probably a mistake to have him at the table tomorrow. Wouldn't surprise me if he comes off looking like a bitter old coot confused by the bright lights. His lack of intelligence could become (more) obvious when details are discussed.

Probably also a mistake to only have white guys representing the Repubs when there'll be a black guy and a woman on the other side. Visuals are important in political theater. Ask Nixon.
