They pulled the Harriet Miers card out of their sleeve

I just knew it. I didn’t know when, but I knew it was coming. For the record, I was never in favor of or supportive of Harriet Miers nomination by President Bush to the SCOTUS. But it seems some high profile Republicans that still hold office were. They cited her being an outsider without prior judicial experience as a positive, but now that Obama nominated Elena Kagan, all of a sudden judicial experience matters. Let me see if I have this right. It was okay with the Bush nominee, but not the Obama nominee. Why some people would call that hypocritical.

You see, this is why I hate politicians. You either be consistent or get the hell out of D.C. Be true to yourself and don’t back down from your principles and beliefs just because your guy does something, or the other guy does something. This is why the majority of America despises congress.

I got the idea for this post from Mike Lillis of the Washington Independent and of all places, Media Matters. Oddly enough those two sources only cite Republican inconsistencies. What those two sources don’t tell you is the very same Democrats are for Elena Kagan for the exact same reasons they opposed Harriet Miers. Hypocrisy again. Are you as fed up with this crap as I am? From both sides. We have the opportunity to stop this crap in November. I suggest we do. It’s time for fresh blood in D.C., on both sides.

I forget. What were Harriet Miers's qualifications to sit on the highest court in the land? And what "same Democrats" are you talking about? As I remember it, the Miers choice was almost universally panned. I doubt that'll be the case with Kagan.

Meiers was panned by most people who weren't Inside-the-Beltway Republican wonks. Fortunately, we got Alito out of that tussle. Hopefully Obama isn't thinking of trying the same thing; running a moderate candidate who would get the base in a tither, and then replacing her with someone like Bill Ayers.

WHile Harriet Miers was justifiably panned by everyone here and as Bill C said, by all that weren't insiders in DC, she saw more courtroom time in her life than Kagen has in hers. As surprising as it is to hear myself saying it,Miers is more qualified than Kagen...and that ain't saying much...

You don't see the double standard?
If Miers was a bad choice because of a lack of judicial experience, then Kagan is also a lousy choice for the same reason.
I oppose(ed) both.
Here's Obama expressing why we should show some skepticism about Kagen-

Hey, how a bout an appeals court judge that didn't go to Haahvaaard or Yale for that matter.
How about Berkeley, or Duke or Ohio state or something.
and either a judge or someone who spent their career arguing before the supremes.

How about someone who isn't part of the clique?

Meiers was said to be dumber than Gonzalez by people who worked with them both. It was her lack of a brain that killed her nomination. The problem with Kagan is she's not liberal enough.

And I thought you guys liked your justices just scoring balls and strikes. The Roberts Court has certainly been exercising their "activist" skills of late.

Now there's a new theme from the left.

The problem with Kagan is she's not liberal enough
Proof that you may just believe your own press.
But alas, we are in fact not stupid, and will not fall for that dumbass BS.

All I need to know about her is that she thinks the 1st amendment should be tossed out if speech is offensive.

She isn't liberal enough. Scotus needs a balance.
